After Your Procedure

You are given a number of medications during your procedure.  These sometimes include sedatives, narcotics, local anesthetics, steroids and other medications.  Any of these drugs or the procedure itself can sometimes cause side effects including:  drowsiness, temproary numbness, weakness and soreness.

What to do after the procedure:
  • Rest for a few hours and use assistance if needed.
  • Resume activity as tolerated, but do not overexert yourself.
  • Resume regular diet.
  • Resume your regular medications.
  • You may ice on and off for 15 minute intervals.

Restrictions:
  • No shower for 24 hours after the procedure.
  • No bath, swimming, or jacuzzi for 72 hours (3 days) after your procedure.
  • No heat (heating pads, tanning, sunbathing) for 1 week following the procedure.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for at least 12 hours.
  • Do not make important decisions for 24 hours after receiving sedation.
  • Walk with assistance as long as numbness, weakness or drowsiness is present.

If you have:
  • Excessive or abnormal bleeding
  • Persistent chills and/or fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Redness, swelling or discharge from the injection site
  • Major change in pain pattern or pain levels

Emergency:

In case of emergency, call 781-662-2243.  If you are unable to reach the physician, report to the nearest emergency room and ask them to notify your physician at Advanced Pain Management.
